Citalopram Hydrobromide – Citalopram hbr
Citalopram (citalopram hydrobromide) is available in the form of Tablets and Oral Solution. Citalopram hbr is an orally administered selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) with a chemical structure unrelated to that of other SSRIs or of tricyclic, tetracyclic, or other available antidepressant agents. Citalopram hbr is a fine, white to off-white powder. Citalopram hydrobromide oral solution contains citalopram hbr equivalent to 2 mg/mL citalopram base. It also contains inactive ingredients like sorbitol, purified water, propylene glycol, methylparaben, natural peppermint flavor, and propylparaben. Citalopram (citalopram hydrobromide) affects neurotransmitters, the chemicals that nerves within the brain use to communicate with each other. Citalopram hydrobromide is used to treat depression. Citalopram hydrobromide works by preventing the uptake of one neurotransmitter, serotonin, by nerve cells after it has been released. Citalopram hydrobromide may also be used for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
Citalopram hydrobromide dosage :
The Daily Dosage of citalopram hbr is different in adults and children. Adult Dose of Citalopram hydrobromide is 20 mg orally once a day. Geriatric Dose of citalopram hbr is 20 mg orally once a day. In children the recommended dosage is 10 mg to 20 mg orally once daily. Pediatric Dose of citalopram hbr for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is different from the above. The recommended citalopram hbr dosage is 5-10 mg/day or 10 to 20 mg/day given once daily depending upon their age.
Citalopram (citalopram hydrobromide) Side Effects:
The most common citalopram hbr side effects noted in users of citalopram hbr are: Constipation; decreased sexual desire or ability; diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth; increased sweating; light-headedness when you stand or sit up; loss of appetite; nausea; stuffy nose; tiredness; weakness; yawning. Call your doctor, if these citalopram hbr side effects persist or become bothersome. The severe citalopram hydrobromide side effects are: Severe allergic reactions; absent menstrual period; bizarre behavior; black or bloody stools; chest pain; confusion; decreased concentration; decreased coordination; fainting; fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; hallucinations; memory loss; new or worsening agitation, panic attacks, aggressiveness, impulsiveness, irritability, hostility, exaggerated feeling of well-being, restlessness, or inability to sit still; persistent, painful erection; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; seizures; severe or persistent anxiety or trouble sleeping; severe or persistent headache; shortness of breath; stomach pain; suicidal thoughts or attempts; tremor; unusual bruising or bleeding; unusual or severe mental or mood changes; unusual weakness; vision changes; worsening of depression.
